Texas Children’s Hospital Opens First-Ever ‘Detransition’ Clinic
Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) opened the first “Detransition Clinic” in the U.S., devoted to helping those harmed by “transgender” medical interventions: puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones and surgeries.
The clinic’s services will be funded by Texas Children’s and be free of charge to all patients for the next five years.
Sadly, the cost of treating injured children, adolescents and young adults does not begin to compare with the irreversible destruction visited on them through experimental, body-damaging transgender medical interventions.
Such “treatments” are completely ineffective, as they cannot change children or adults into the opposite sex. And “detransitioning” cannot fully repair all the significant harms from these treatments.
These damages include, as the 2025 review from the Department of Health and Human Services reported, “infertility/sterility, sexual dysfunction, impaired bone density accrual, adverse cognitive impacts, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders, psychiatric disorders, surgical complications, and regret.”
And perfectly healthy and functioning body parts that were amputated by health care professionals can never be replaced.
Minors are not equipped to offer consent to such harmful procedures.
In May 2026, as the Daily Citizen reported, then-Acting Attorney Todd Blanche announced that the Department of Justice and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had reached a settlement with Texas Children’s, requiring it to stop performing sex-rejecting surgeries and create the country’s first ever Detransition Clinic.
In addition, the DOJ’s announcement explained:
TCH will pay $10 million to resolve allegations that it submitted false billings to public and private payors to secure insurance coverage for pediatric sex-rejecting procedures.
The Detransition Clinic at Texas Children’s lists its services:
This clinic provides detransition-related medical care for patients through age 21 along with detransition-related obstetric and gynecologic care for patients older than 21.
The care offered through this clinic is multidisciplinary and therefore patients may receive services at different Texas Children’s locations depending on their individual needs and the services recommended by their care team.
The clinic added that it provides a team of “multi-disciplinary experts across several specialties including, but not limited to endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, psychiatry, psychology, social work and case management, and speech pathology.”
Nurse Practitioner Vanessa Sivadge was an early whistleblower who accused TCH of fraudulent use of Medicaid funds to pay for transgender medical interventions.
She told Christopher Rufo, author and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, “In the cardiac clinic, we were taking sick kids and making them better. … In the transgender clinic, it was the opposite, we were harming these kids.”
According to Savidge, medical professionals were “manipulating patients into gender-affirming care.”
She applauded the clinic opening in a post on X, saying:
Under the settlement, TCH must provide multidisciplinary detransition-related care FREE OF CHARGE for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, social work, and speech pathology. …
I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard. This win is for them.
She concluded:
I hope TCH’s admirable effort to fund and launch Americas first detransition clinic becomes a turning point for the entire country. That this clinic is not the exception, but the first of many.
Today’s a good day.
The Daily Citizen heartily agrees.
